Naomi defeated Tamara Korpacz in two sets

Former world number one Naomi Osaka returned to WTA Tour after a pause associated with the birth of a child.

Today’s match against the German Tamara Korpach in the first round of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane was Osaka’s first since September 2022. In July 2023, the Japanese tennis player gave birth to a daughter.

The 26-year-old Osaka beat Korpacz in straight sets. Let us note that in the second game the Japanese woman fought back two set points in the tiebreaker and achieved the final victory.

Naomi’s next opponent will be 16th seed Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic. Ukrainians Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina are also playing at the tournament in Brisbane. Dayana Yastremskaya was defeated in the first round.

Osaka is the winner of four Grand Slam singles tournaments and seven WTA tournaments.
