Rafael Nadal: “I will come to Paris and I will understand if this season will be the last”

Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal said he plans to decide whether to continue his career for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Nadal missed almost all of last season due to injury. In his first match after his return, which took place on December 31, the 37-year-old Spaniard and his compatriot Marc Lopez lost to Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson in the first round of the tournament in Brisbane (Australia).

— When I arrive in Paris, I will understand if this will be my last season. There are still five months before the end of the year, I will know my condition. I’m ready, but I realize that this will most likely be my last year of tennis.

I know there are many suitable options, but I’m not 100% sure. If suddenly at the end of the year I feel good physically, and my family is doing well thanks to what I do, then I will feel competitive. But as I know it is very difficult, I am preparing to say goodbye to him,” Nadal said as quoted by As.

Previously, Nadal said it was highly likely that the 2024 season would be the last of his career.

The Spaniard is a 22-time Grand Slam winner. According to this indicator, among the players on the ATP circuit, he is just behind the Serbian Novak Djokovic (24 years old).
