Return to Mexico: Jarry beats Meligeni to advance to San Luis Open semi-finals

The Chilean overturned a tough game against the Brazilian and won with a resounding 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. This Saturday will be played the passage to the final of the Challenger tournament.

Nicolás Jarry is a semi-finalist at the San Luis Open. He achieves this after coming back from a dramatic match against Brazilian Felipe Meligeni. They started to lose 4-6, but fought back and won the other sets 6-4 and 7-5. With this, the Chilean continues to edge closer to the top 100.

At first, the game was difficult for Jarry. Suddenly he found himself with a break against and from there he had to row from behind this whole part. He held serve, but couldn’t break when left. He looked for every way to turn things around, but the Brazilian always knew how to contain these attacks. Thus, the first round was in favor of Meligeni, well known in the country, since his presence is usual in the challenger tournaments that are played in Chile.

But Jarry woke up and came out second with everything. It was a 180 degree change , where he quickly became the dominator of the match. With his intractable service and moreover with great clarity to cause damage to the carioca. In fact, it was a surprise that the result of this game started to even out, because at times it really seemed like Menegini had nothing to do.

These were tense moments and the game could escape Nicolás. Something that remained only in a hypothesis. The former World 60 managed to squeeze in and take a partial where they even broke him when he was 5-3. finally it was 6-4 for a Jarry who celebrated loudly his permanence in the meeting.

And for the third set, everything was even. A tight, fought partial. Where both set their services with delivery and failed to tell the difference when it was their turn to respond. Games progressed without changes or news . It doesn’t matter if Jarry is looking for the lines or Meligeni is risking himself with his backhand. Breaks did not exist.

One of the moments that marked this tension was the 5-4 and the return of the man from Santiago. He had break chances and plenty of advantages against him. They played over six minutes that game and ended up leaving everything the same.

Even if something became clear: Jarry was better then . His games were easily overcome, while his rival had to fight for long stretches to ensure he served. A battle that was repeated in the next match, but ended up giving the match to the Chilean. 7-5 and a clenched fist for the national tennis player.

In the semi-finals, he will have to wait for his rival, since Renzo Olivo and Ernesto Escobedo they haven’t played their key yet. In any case, the duel will take place on Saturday at a time to be confirmed. The Creole giant is advancing more and more in the top 100. If he becomes champion, this promotion could materialize.
