President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev says that Karen Khachanov would have entered the top 10 of the ATP rankings at the end of 2023, without his injury.
Khachanov, 27, is ranked 15th in the ATP rankings. He was injured at Roland Garros in June. He was diagnosed with a stress fracture and a partial sacrum fracture.
— Khachanov’s moments of failure in 2023 were the result of injury. Before her, Karen was making steady progress. I think without his injury Khachanov would have been the third Russian in the top 10 at the end of the year. Karen is on the right track. He has done a lot to progress. After the injury, Karen was already playing in the top ten in the world. I wish Khachanov to avoid injuries and continue to improve,” Tarpishchev said, as quoted by Sport24.
The top 10 in the ATP rankings includes Russians Daniil Medvedev (3rd place) and Andrey Rublev (5th place). The Serbian Novak Djokovic is in the lead, the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz is second.
