The Spaniard failed to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament in Brisbane
Legendary Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal was defeated by Jordan Thompson in the quarter finals of the tournament ATP 250 in Brisbane. The fight lasted almost 3.5 hours.
Nadal won the first set 7:5 and was close to the final victory in the second game, but failed to convert three match points. First, the Spaniard was unable to complete the match with a score of 5:4, and then missed two match points in the tiebreaker.
In the third set, Nadal lost 3:6. With the score 1:4, Rafa left the court to receive medical attention.
The Brisbane tournament was 37-year-old Nadal’s first on Tour after a year-long break. Due to injury, he has not played since January 2023 and had surgery on his left hip earlier in the summer.
Thompson will play against second seeded Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria in the semi-finals of the tournament in Brisbane. In the second semi-final match, seeding leader Holger Rune and Roman Safiullin will meet.
