Swiss tennis player Roger Federer said he no longer needed tennis and that a professional career could not last forever.
— I’m a fan of winning, but if you don’t compete anymore, then it’s better to stop. I don’t think I need tennis. I like the little things, like when my son does something good and when my daughter gets a good grade.
Tennis is part, but not everything, of my personality. I want to succeed and stay, put a lot of energy into the business – maybe sometimes I give more than necessary, but that can be done outside of sport. I know that a professional career can’t last forever, and that’s okay, – Algemeen Dagblad quotes Federer.
On Monday, the 40-year-old Swiss left the ATP rankings for the first time in his career. The tennis player was the world’s No. 1 racket for a total of 310 weeks, 237 of which were non-stop. Federer returned to the top of the global list in 2018 at age 36, becoming the oldest leader in the rankings.
Roger last went to court in July last year as part of Wimbledon. He said he plans to take part in the Basel tournament at the end of October.
