Daria Kasatkina vs. Anna Kalinskaya
Last year, Daria Kasatkina had a relatively quiet season on the WTA Tour, but she started 2024 on a pretty good note, reaching the quarterfinals of the Brisbane tournament, where she was unable to compete with Aryna Sabalenka .
Meanwhile, Anna Kalinskaya in Brisbane was eliminated in the 1/16 finals by Victoria Azarenka, and in Adelaide she had to make her way to the main draw through qualification, since Kalinskaya was only 75th in the WTA rankings. And in the first round, the Russian became the author of the loudest sensation after defeating the 10th racket in the world, Barbora Krejcikova, in three sets.
In the confrontations, Kasatkina defeated Kalinskaya with a score of 3:1, but the last match played in favor of Anna.
Kalinskaya is an extremely aggressive tennis player and she is capable of surprising once again by beating a top 15 player.
Forecast: Anna Kalinskaya will win in three sets.
Veronica Kudermetova vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova
Last season, Kudermetova was in the top 10 of the WTA rankings for a while, and Alexandrova has been in the top 30 for many years.
Kudermetova in Brisbane was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by another Russian, Anastasia Potapova, and in Adelaide she started with a victory in straight sets against the American Ashlyn Kruger. Alexandrova sensationally lost to Argentina’s Julia Riera in the first round in Brisbane, and in Adelaide she immediately faced a serious opponent in the person of Poland’s Magda Linette.
Alexandrova lost the first set and then lost constantly in the second and third, but in the end, having collected a total of 4 match points, she emerged victorious from this confrontation.
The personal meeting statistics between the two Russians are 2-2. Both tennis players rely on reliability and take no risks when playing from the baseline. Kudermetova is however more consistent than Alexandrova and will have the advantage in this match.
Prognosis: Veronika Kudermetova will win in three sets.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs. Katerina Sinyakova
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova was on the verge of retirement due to a knee injury in 2022. Yet, the former world number 11 has made a brilliant return to the WTA Tour and currently sits at 87th in the rankings. In the first round, she defeated the 11th ranked Brazilian in the world, Beatrice Addad Maia.
Katerina Sinyakova has achieved most of her success in doubles, not singles. In pairs, she has a total of 7 TBS (2 victories each at the Australian Open, Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and 1 title at the US Open), as well as gold at the 2022 Olympic Games. In singles, she has 5 titles and never made it past the 4th round at TBS.
In the first round, Sinyakova defeated experienced compatriot Karolina Pliskova in straight sets. She will now have to play again with an older tennis player.
Pavlyuchenkova wins 3-2 in personal meetings with Czech. In the ATP rankings, they are only separated by 10 positions; the Russian should be able to face her opponent even in two sets.
Forecast: Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will win in straight sets.
