The Ukrainian tennis player overcame the American Taylor Townsend in a difficult confrontation.
Marta Kostyuk reached the quarter finals of the prestigious WTA 500 tennis tournament in Adelaide, Australia. In the second round, the Ukrainian tennis player defeated Taylor Townsend from the United States.
Let’s notice that the confrontation has been difficult for our countrymen. The match lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes and stretched over three sets. In the final game, Marta fought 6 break points and was able to win the fourth match point.
Let’s add that Kostyuk shouldn’t have played against Townsend in the first place. The American last-minute replaced Czech tennis player and Wimbledon 2023 winner Marketa Vondrousova, who withdrew from the tournament, in the main draw. In the first round, Taylor defeated Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich.
In the next round, Marta will play against the winner of the pair Caroline Garcia – Alena Ostapenko.
WTA. Adelaide. Second round
Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine) – Taylor Townsend (USA) – 6:3, 2:6, 6:4
We remind you that in the first round Kostyuk won the Ukrainian Derby in Adelaide against Angelina Kalinina.
