Athletistic will broadcast a live text online: Tennis. WTA. Adelaide. The final. Ostapenko – Kasatkina. Direct
Ostapenko started the year well before the Australian Open, which begins on January 14. The 2017 French Open champion reached the quarter-finals in Brisbane last week, where she lost to Victoria Azarenka in a close match.
And this week she showed her best tennis in Adelaide, beating such strong opponents as Caroline Garcia, Sorana Cirstea, Ekaterina Alexandrova and Marta Kostyuk.
Thanks to her performance in Adelaide, Ostapenko could return to the women’s top 10 in the WTA rankings next week.
Daria Kasatkina repeated Ostapenko’s start to the season, reaching the quarter-finals in Brisbane and advancing to the final in Adelaide. The 26-year-old athlete is currently ranked 15th in the WTA rankings. She started last year in 8th place, but the Russian dropped out of the top 10 in June after failing to defend her points from the 2022 French Open semi-finals. However, she has played well since then, reaching the final at Eastbourne and the semi-finals at the Zhengzhou Open.
Ostapenko wins 5-2 in personal meetings with Kasatkina. Their last meeting took place at the 2023 Italian Open, where the Latvian defeated her Russian opponent in three sets.
