Rublev arrived in Melbourne after winning the Hong Kong Open in early January. He only lost two sets before reaching the final. In the final he beat Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets without any problems.
The Russian also had an impressive 2023 season, winning his first Masters title in Monte Carlo. He also won his 250th tour match at this tournament. Rublev has reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open and will look to improve on his results this year.
US Open junior singles champion Thiago Wild began the 2024 season at the United Cup with Brazil. Wild lost both matches and their team was eliminated in the group stage. He competed at the Adelaide Open earlier this week, successfully qualifying for the main draw after two grueling three-set matches in qualifying. However, he lost to Australian Alex Bolt in the first round.
Wild did not play at the Australian Open last year and only made the main draw at Roland Garros.
Andrey Rublev and Wild have not yet met, this is their first match on the ATP tour.
