Tsurenko: Nothing worked today, but character won

The Ukrainian won in three sets over Lucia Bronzetti from Italy

Ukrainian tennis player Lesya Tsurenko commented on the victory over the Italian Lucia Bronzetti in the first round Australain Open-2024.

“Today just didn’t work. There weren’t even any reasons or nerves. Nothing bothered me, the game just wasn’t going well. I tried to be patient and hope that it would work. In the end, one might say, things worked out more or less.”

“Here in Melbourne, I generally have legendary nets, it seems to me. Playing with the world number one for two years in a row was somehow “cool”. Now I don’t have any pressure from the fact that I’m seeded, that I have to win against someone. The main task is to find your game so that there are no first sets like today.”

“I’m not very happy with the purity and level of the game, I have good physics and moral and volitional qualities that allow me to win in such matches. Of course, I understand that not all games can be perfect, sometimes character really wins, and today is perhaps exactly the case.”

The Ukrainian lost the first set in the match with Bronzetti, but managed to win the next two. Lesya won the decisive point at the reception.

Let us remind you that Tsurenko is seeded 28th at the Australian Open. In the second round, the Ukrainian will play with the winner of the match Rebecca Masarova (Spain) – Alexandra Sasnovich (-).
