Australian Open first round was tough test for Rublev, says Selivanenko

Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFT) Alexei Selivanenko commented on the result of the opening match Andrei Rublev at the 2024 Australian Open.

The fifth-seeded Russian defeated world number 78 Wild on Sunday with a score of 7:5, 6:4, 3:6, 4:6, 7:6 (10:6).

— The first round was a difficult test for Andrey. However, don’t expect an easy walk. Thiago is a difficult opponent and already has victories over experienced players. So it wasn’t easy for Andrey, especially when he had to come back into the match after losing two sets in a row. But such victories are all the more valuable,” Selivanenko was quoted as saying by “Championship”.

In the next match, Rublev will face the winner of the confrontation between Christopher Eubanks (USA) and Taro Daniel (Japan).
