Yastremskaya: To talk about what is happening in Ukraine, a few seconds are not enough

Diana reached the second round of the Australian Open 2024

Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya commented on reaching the second round of the main singles draw Australian Open-2024.

“I think today was a really great match. It’s always nice to play against Marketa, we’ve already met several times and by the way, the last time we played I lost to her, so I was a little worried. I tried to just enjoy the match; today there was incredible support from the stands. Thank you very much”.

“Do I like playing such aggressive tennis? I think it’s in my character. In normal life, I’m generally quite active, so I’m exactly the same on the court. I have been playing this type of tennis since childhood and enjoy it. Yes, I make a lot of mistakes, but it’s okay, when you play aggressively, it’s normal.”

“To talk about what is happening in Ukraine, a few seconds are not enough. I am very proud of our country. I’m proud of our people. I’m proud of our soldiers. When I was in Brisbane, before my match, my grandmother’s house was hit by a rocket. It was hard to play. We need to remember and provide as much support to Ukraine as possible. I’m proud to be Ukrainian and thank you all for your support!”

Yastremska won a sensational victory over the seventh racket of the world, Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic. During the meeting, Dayana gave only one of her games to her opponent, but Marketa lost five of her serves (6:1, 6:2).

In the second round of the Australian Open, in addition to Yastremskaya, Elina Svitolina, Lesya Tsurenko and Marta Kostyuk will play. Today Angelina Kalinina and Yulia Starodubtseva will play in the main draw of AO-2024.
