Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva admitted that she would like to perform at the Paris Olympics.
On Wednesday, Andreeva defeated Tunisian world No. 6 Onse Jabeur in the second round of the Australian Open with a score of 6:0 and 6:2. It took the 16-year-old from Krasnoyarsk less than an hour to secure a ticket for the third round.
— I don’t know if I will have the opportunity (to go to the Olympics). But if I get the chance, I will of course look forward to the matches. It’s another tournament where it’s a dream to play. We’ll see, but at the moment I don’t know,” Andreeva said at a press conference after the match.
Currently, Andreeva ranks 47th in the world tennis rankings.
Last December, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it would allow Russian athletes who successfully qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris to benefit from individual neutral status.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
