President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation Elena Vyalbe said she considered the tennis player Daniel Medvedev the best athlete in the country based on 2023 results.
On Thursday in Moscow, Elena Vyalbe received the Silver Doe award for 2022 and the 10 best athletes for 2023, according to the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia, were announced. Besides Medvedev, the list of winners included Anastasia Bodnaruk, Valentina Gunina (both chess), Kliment Kolesnikov (swimming), Elena Krutova (Paralympian – archery), Vladimir Leontyev (sambo), Artem Osipenko (sambo), Andrey Rublev (tennis), Liliya Khuzina (taekwondo) and Evgenia Chikunova (swimming).
“I saw some names for the first time, but among those I see on this list, I would call Daniil Medvedev the best,” reports correspondent Vyalbe.
Last season, 27-year-old Medvedev took 3rd place in the ATP rankings and won five singles titles – Masters in Rome and Miami, as well as tournaments in Dubai, Doha and Rotterdam.
