Nole shares unknown details about one of his Australian Open traditions. Of course, this does not clear up all the unknowns.
Novak Djokovic first played in Melbourne in 2005. 19 years later, not only does he know the city inside out, but he also has a unique connection with it. Without going any further, he is the one who has lifted the trophy the most times in the history of the first major event on the calendar. There are already ten and for 2024 he is excited about number eleven.
A story full of successes, where a unique character has always been present. It is not a coach, nor a specific area, but a tree. His best friend in Melbourne even said it on occasion.
It all became public this week during the Australian Open, when the Serbian detailed his days off right in the middle of the event. “I like to visit certain places that have brought me luck and that make me feel good. For example, the Botanical Garden that we have nearby. It’s a great park where I like to spend time alone with nature, walking barefoot, hugging trees, doing that kind of thing. . I love doing it. I’ve been doing it for 15 years,” commented the Serb.
An innocent sentence perhaps, but one which unleashed madness among the local supporters. Everyone wanted to know what tree it was and where it was located in the vast park. Nole, laughing, clarified that it would remain secret. “I can’t reveal what it is about, I’ll try to keep it low key, so that when I get there I have some time to myself. . “I like to sit and communicate with this old friend,” he admitted a few days later during one of his press conferences.
It was there that he also spoke in more depth about his connection to the flora of the capital Victoria. “I love every corner of the botanic gardens, I think it’s an incredible treasure for Melbourne to have so much parkland and nature in the middle of the city,” he added.
The attention the issue received was so great that at this press conference he spoke about it again: “I am connected to this tree, I like it. I love their roots, their trunks, their branches, everything. I started climbing it years ago . “We have a connection, that’s all,” he said.
The Melbourne Botanic Gardens is one of the city’s largest parks and is located just meters from the Australian Open venue. Also in its surroundings are iconic city landmarks such as the Melbourne Observatory, Victoria Government House and the Shrine of Remembrance in honor of Australians who fought in the war.
