Selivanenko calls Blinkova-Rybakina tiebreaker at Australian Open fantastic

Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation Alexei Selivanenko commented on the victory of Russian Anna Blinkova over world third racket Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the second round of the Australian Open.

The match ended with a score of 6:4, 4:6, 7:6 (22:20) in favor of the Russian athlete. The athletes spent 2 hours and 46 minutes on the field. The tiebreaker was the longest in Grand Slam tournament history.

“It was the most fantastic tiebreaker I have ever seen, in terms of intensity and duration. This is what makes Grand Slam tournaments different. This was the most exciting tiebreaker! So many match points on both sides. Probably, for Anya, given the fact that she had enough match points before, it would have been more offensive to lose. Anya was closer to victory. Anyone could have won, but losing to Anya would have been more offensive than to Lena, depending on how the match went,” Selivanenko was quoted as saying by “Championship.”

Blinkova’s next opponent will be Italian Jasmine Paolini, seeded 26th at the Australian Open.
