Athletistic/Tennis. Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpishchev expressed satisfaction that the record for the longest tiebreaker at Grand Slam tournaments now belongs to Russia.

In the second round of the Australian Open, Blinkova defeated Rybakina with a score of 6:4, 4:6, 7:6 (22:20). The match lasted 2 hours 46 minutes and the tiebreaker was the longest in the history of Grand Slam singles tournaments.

Tarpishchev noted Blinkova’s strong-willed performance, noting that she was playing at a level despite her lower rating than Rybakina. The President of the Tennis Federation stressed the importance of will to succeed in such matches.

“We are showing that we have a complete squad and strong tennis players, not just one star. The girls are great,” Tarpischev added.

Blinkova’s next opponent will be Italian tennis player Jasmine Paolini, seeded 26th in the tournament.
