Athletistic / Tennis. Russian tennis player Anna Kalinskaya shared her emotions after reaching the fourth round (1/8 final) of the Australian Open 2024. She said that she is now proud of herself.
“It was a bit disappointing to lose the first set when I had so many chances to win it. I had a few break points to take the lead, I was leading in the tie-break. But Stevens showed very good tennis, she’s a great fighter. After the first set, I had to go back and change my strategy a little.
The 1/8 finals of a Grand Slam tournament are exciting. I’m very happy to play so many matches in Melbourne and I’m looking forward to the next one. Of course, I didn’t know I could go this far, but it makes me very happy. I’m proud of myself!” Kalinskaya said at the post-match press conference.
Anna Kalinskaya beat American Sloane Stephens in three sets with a score of 6:7 (8-10), 6:1, 6:4. The 25-year-old Russian will participate for the first time in her career in the second week of a Grand Slam tournament. Her next opponent will be the Italian Yasmin Paolini (31st racket in the world).
Note that Kalinskaya is currently ranked 75th in the world rankings, but after the Australian Open, she is guaranteed to climb to at least 52nd place.
