Medvedev: “I have already 100% left the final of the Australian Open 2022. I am here to win another Grand Slam.”

Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev who beat Canadian Félix Auger-Alassime in the third round of the Australian Open, said he wants to win another Grand Slam and will try to do so in Melbourne.

In the third round, the third-seeded Russian beat Auger-Alassime (27) with a score of 6:3, 6:4, 6:3. Medvedev lost to Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final two years ago, taking a 2-0 lead in straight sets.

– Yesterday I came to court. Everyone asked me, “What are you doing here?” How are you feeling?” Actually, it wasn’t that bad. I did a 45 minute workout: just light strokes, working with a physical therapist. I went to bed around 11 p.m. local time, and I slept until 9 a.m. Usually, if I go to bed at exactly 11 p.m., I wake up between 8 and 8:30 a.m. But today I woke up at nine with my alarm. C It was hard. During the day I was sleeping again. The day was like a heavy dream. I felt like I wasn’t getting enough sleep. Like I said, today I wasn’t ready to 100% physically, more like 85-90%, which is still good.

— Two years ago, you had an important final with Nadal during this tournament. Are you considering having another chance?

– I feel like I left this match 100% in the past. There is only the future and the present before us. It was hard, then I wanted to win. Even in the fifth set, when he had almost won, I came back, but still lost.

It’s a tough loss, but now I have 100% confidence in myself. I’m focused on what’s happening now. I want to try to reach the final again, try to have a chance to win another Grand Slam. I want to show good tennis, beat strong guys and, I hope, win another title,” Medvedev said at a press conference.

In the fourth round, Medvedev will meet Portuguese Nuno Borges.
