At the Australian Open tennis championship, the matches of the 1/8 finals of the tournament were held in the women’s bracket.

Ukraine will have two tennis players in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Following Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremskaya also went to this stage. The latter defeated former world number one Victoria Azarenka in the 4th round of the Australian Open in straight sets.

In the first game, Dayana lost 3:5, and also saved two set points in the 12th game with a reception. In the second set, the Ukrainian lost 0:3, but managed to turn the game around, won 4 games in a row, and then brought the match to its logical conclusion. This is the fourth meeting between the tennis players. Yastremskaya won both. Note that Yastremskaya reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career.

Let’s add that there could be more Ukrainians in the quarterfinals, but Elina Svitolina withdrew from the 1/8 finals match of the Australian major against Linda Noskova. After the first three games, our tennis player felt pain in his back and decided not to continue the match.
