This is the first time in her career that Kalinskaya has reached this far in a Grand Slam tournament. At Roland Garros and Wimbledon she was always eliminated in the first round, and at the US Open she reached the second round four times.
In Australia this year, she has already beaten three rivals. In the first round, Kalinskaya defeated American Katie Volynets in three sets – 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Then she defeated the Dutch tennis player Arancha Rus 6-1, 7-5 and in the third round she eliminated another American Sloane Stephens from the tournament – 6-7, 6-1, 6-4.
