Lyudmila Kichenok And Elena Ostapenko reached the doubles semi-finals Australian Open 2024.
The Ukrainian-Latvian tandem beat the French Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic in two sets. The meeting lasted one hour and 43 minutes.
The first set was an even fight. The rivals won once on someone else’s serves, and in the tiebreaker Lyudmila and Elena were stronger – 7:2.
In the second game, the Ukrainian and Latvian made the decisive break in the tenth game, converting a match point on the fourth attempt.
The Kichenok/Ostapenko tandem reached the semi-final stage of the BS series tournament for the third time. They previously managed this in 2022, in Paris and Wimbledon.
Lyudmila and Elena will compete for the right to play in their first doubles final of a major with the duo Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routliffe (Canada/New Zealand), seeded No. 4 in Melbourne.
