The Ukrainian tennis player summed up his performances at the Australian Open and recalled the war.

Marta Kostyuk shares her impressions of her performances at the Australian Open 2024. Despite the fact that the young Ukrainian managed to reach the singles quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career, where, as we recall, she lost he in the American Cori Gauff, he has to talk about the war again in the press conference.

“I think the girls did very well. I hope we can do well in most tournaments, especially the big ones where there is a lot of media.

People need to be reminded. Before the fight I was watching the news and it seemed to predict that there would probably be another big rocket attack. When I left the court, I watched the news again and I didn’t know how many rockets had arrived. Still a lot of new information. But yes, I corresponded with some people from Kyiv. I said, how are you? How are things? They said: “Well, between your battles we are still looking at where the missiles are flying.”

I think if someone had told us, for example, a month after the war started that it would last two years, I think everyone would have just said: “No, no way, we will never survive this. two years. ” Time passes and things happen.

People always bring a lot of joy and happiness, regardless of the time. I guess that hasn’t changed. I think it’s the same thing.

I received a lot of messages, a lot of support from people who told me: “Wow, what a great tournament, such emotions, what a fight, what a fighting spirit. It was great to watch, we love it.”

Of course, it’s good when people look at something other than rocket attacks. So I hope, I really hope, that Ukrainian sports will develop even under such conditions. It’s incredibly difficult, but everything is very resilient. As for the support from other countries, I think it can still grow.

We are obviously behind the others. We’re behind, and I don’t think it’s that noticeable yet. I think in 10, 15 years it will be clear how far we are, unfortunately, because the generation that is growing up now is suffering the most.

I hope that I have enough time and influence in the future to help as many children as possible in sports, but it is not easy and sports is not an easy task. But we have to develop in any case, regardless of whether there is a war or not.

So yeah, I really hope for the best and I just hope that all of this will make people stronger and more resilient. Then we can, you know, develop it in the future,” Kostyuk said at a press conference.
