Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev admitted to losing concentration during the fourth set of his Australian Open quarter-final match against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz.
Medvedev defeated his opponent in five sets – 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 6:3, 5:7, 6:4. The meeting lasted just under four hours.
— Now I am very devastated (laughs). To be honest, I can’t say that I lacked strength, but it was already difficult for me by the end of the second set. I think: “Okay, we have to try to hold on, but he’s playing well.” In the fourth set I had no concentration and thought I had to do my best and do my best or else I would lose and go home. “I’m happy to have won, I liked the match point,” Medvedev said on the court.
The Russian’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Alexander Zverev (Germany, 6) and Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, 2).
Medvedev’s best result at the Australian Open is reaching the tournament final in 2021 and 2022.
