Yastremskaya: It was a wonderful tournament for me, but in the semifinals I felt severe pain

The Ukrainian set a personal record at Grand Slam tournaments

Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya commented on her performance on Australian Open 2024.

“I’m pleased with the result. I’m not upset about the loss. I still think it was a great tournament for me. Usually in Grand Slams you have to play seven matches, but I played nine, so I’m very proud of myself.”

“I’m not very upset about the loss, but I’m very upset that I didn’t have enough emotions, physical preparation, that I didn’t recover for today’s match. There were important moments when I had to give a little more than my opponent. I felt like there just wasn’t enough resource.”

“Today after warming up, I felt that my abdominal muscles were a little sore. And in the first set, after two games, I hit a forehand, and I felt that I started to have severe pain there. So I took a medical time out.”

“It got better, but I still felt like I couldn’t really give it my all. There weren’t that many of them anymore.”

The Ukrainian lost to Chinese Qin Wen Zheng in the semifinals of AO-2024 in two sets. Dayana was forced to take a medical timeout in the first game.

Yastremskaya reached the semifinals of the Grand Slam series competition for the first time in her career. Let us remind you that the Ukrainian made it into the top four starting from qualification. In the new WTA ranking, Dayana will return to the top 30 of the WTA ranking and become the third racket of Ukraine.

Let us remind you that Marta Kostyuk finished her performances at the quarterfinal stage (also a personal best). The first racket of Ukraine, Elina Svitolina, stopped a round earlier – in her case, an injury prevented her.
