Pivovarova called Daniil Medvedev favorite for match against Zverev

Former world second racket among juniors Anastasia Pivovarova, in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru, shared her expectations for the semi-final of the Australian Open between Daniel Medvedev and German Alexander Zverev .

On Wednesday, Medvedev defeated Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals with a score of 7:6 (7:4), 2:6, 6:3, 5:7, 6:4. The meeting lasted 3 hours 59 minutes. Following the results of the match, the Russian tennis player said that he was already very tired at the end of the second set, and by the fourth he lost concentration. Later, his opponent was determined – Zverev defeated Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in 3 hours and 4 minutes.

– I believe Medvedev is of a higher level than Zverev, so he will have an advantage. Zverev doesn’t have a very strong second serve, and Daniil can use it. Medvedev also has a more stable game on the back line. But everything will depend on your physical condition. Now even the slightest weakness can decide the outcome of the match, because playing physically against top players is very difficult. They are durable, fast and have very high concentration, so you cannot afford big failures in the game.

But if with Carlos Alcaraz it was necessary to play with maximum concentration, then with Zverev it will be easier for Medvedev to build his game. Carlos knows how to establish a fast rhythm, act in different ways and change the trajectory of the ball, which creates difficulties for the opponent – his rhythm is lost. Alcaraz also plays very consistently. Therefore, it is better for Medvedev if Zverev plays against him in the semi-final,” Pivovarova said.
