At the Australian Open, only the final matches are left to be played and the winners.
Both semi-finals of the men’s draw at the Australian Open ended in unexpected results. In the first match, the main favorite of the tournament, the world number one Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner from Italy met on court.
Despite his status and track record, the prominent Serb lost. And he did it simply. He only took one set from his younger opponent, and then only in a tiebreaker. 1:6, 2:6, 7:6, 3:6 – in favor of Sinner, and he broke Djokovic’s winning streak on Melbourne courts, which reached 33 matches. In addition, Novak had never lost in Melbourne before he reached the quarterfinals.
In the final, Sinner will play against Russian Daniil Medvedev. The latter, in incredible style, snatched victory from Alexander Zverev from Germany. The representative of the aggressor country lost the set 2:0. After that the Russian took the next two games in a tie-break, and in the decisive set he put the finishing touches on the German – 6:3.
Note that this is not the first match in Zverev’s career. In the US Open 2020 final, the German also led 2:0 in sets, but lost to Dominic Thiem.
Novak Djokovic (Serbia) – Jannik Sinner (Italy) – 1:6, 2:6, 7:6, 3:6
