Sabalenka got off to a good start in defending her title, reaching the semi-finals without any problems. She eliminated Ella Seidel, Brenda Fruhvirtova, Lesia Tsurenko, Amanda Anisimova and Barbora Krejcikova in straight sets, losing only 16 games.

Coco Gauff waited for Sabalenka in the semi-final and it was a rematch of last year’s US Open final, which the American won. Sabalenka led 5:2 in the first set, but Gauff turned things around by winning the next four games. She was a few points away from winning the set, but Sabalenka fought back and scored a tiebreaker. The reigning Australian Open champion dominated the tiebreaker to win the first set.
