Former world number one Eugene Kafelnikov expressed the opinion that the Italian Jannik sinner seems preferable to Russian Daniel Medvedev before the final match of the Australian Open.
On Friday, Medvedev defeated Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the semifinals with a score of 5:7, 3:6, 7:6 (7:4), 7:6 (7:5), 6:3. The match lasted 4 hours 18 minutes. In his semi-final, Sinner defeated world number one, Serbian Novak Djokovic, 6:1, 6:2, 6:7 (6:8), 6:3.
– Medvedev is great, he showed character, willpower, there are no questions about dedication. We are all happy for Daniel. There are title chances, but Sinner is currently the favorite and looks preferable. But Medvedev put in a lot of effort both in the semi-final and throughout the tournament. But we’ll see what happens in the final on Sunday. I hope Daniil will not repeat Murray’s path and win his first title in Australia,” Kafelnikov said, as quoted by Metaratings.ru.
