Athletistic/Tennis. Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev expressed his fatigue after four five-set matches at the Australian Open in Melbourne.

In the final, Italian Jannik Sinner beat Medvedev (3) with a score of 3:6, 3:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:3 in 3 hours and 44 minutes. Medvedev’s previous five-set matches came in the second round with Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori, in the quarterfinals with Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz and in the semifinals with Germany’s Alexander Zverev.

“I’m not ready to do anything tomorrow.” I fly away and I don’t like to fly. I don’t know if it’s the cabin pressure, the position we’re sitting in or something else, but my body doesn’t like it. The way I feel right now, I’ll be dead within a week of returning from Australia.

Five sets is hard on the body. In fact, I’d say it’s crazy. I felt the worst the day after the matches with Hurkac and Zverev. Yesterday, when I was in training, I said to myself: “How am I going to play in the final, how am I going to move? We worked really hard with the physical therapist, he did a great job of making sure I was ready every time I stepped on the field.

During matches, it was the same story every time: after two sets, my energy level dropped because I wasn’t getting ideal sleep. So let’s say it’s my fault because I should have won matches faster, but sometimes it’s hard.

It’s hard on my body, but at least I feel like I’m not hurting myself. There are calluses which are very rare for me, but they will pass anyway. I’m ready for the next step this season. However, I started the season strong.

When you have a good sporting mentality, it’s very difficult to lose in the final. That probably hurts more than losing in the semi-final or quarter-final. But we have to try to find the good and the positive in the fact that the final is better than the semi-finals and quarter-finals,” Medvedev said at a press conference.

This is Medvedev’s fifth defeat in the final of a Grand Slam tournament, the third time at the Australian Open.
