Former coach Mikhail Youzhny Boris Sobkin named the Russian Daniel Medvedev a hero for his performance at the current season’s Australian Open.
Medvedev lost to the Italian on Sunday Jannik sinner in the final of the tournament with a score of 6:3, 6:3, 4:6, 4:6, 3:6. The Russian played four five-set matches at the 2024 Australian Open.
“Perhaps I will say a paradoxical thing now, but sometimes solutions that seem ingenious at first glance are the consequence of the lack of other options. Medvedev had no choice, he gave so much effort on the way to this final. He couldn’t play long and exhausting rallies and made the right decision for this match.
– Can we now support him by saying that he gave everything during this Australian Open?
– We need to. I will definitely write to him and support him, but experience tells me that won’t make him feel better now. In general, Medvedev is a hero,” Sobkin told RT.
