Athletistic / Tennis. Darren Cahill, personal coach of Italian Jannik Sinner, winner of the 2024 Australian Open, noted the play of Russian Daniil Medvedev. It was the representative of Russia who was Sinner’s opponent in the decisive match of the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne.

“Medvedev went to hell in that tournament. What Daniil went through physically… I didn’t think he could beat Zverev, but in the end Medvedev managed to do it. There were several more matches in which the Russian was in. He had his back against the wall, but he continued to fight until the very last point. I can’t even imagine how he feels physically now. He must be in a lot of pain.

Once again, I pay tribute to Medvedev not only for the way he played in the final, but also for the fact that he fought mentally until the last point. This is why he is already a Grand Slam champion, this is why he has had many chances to win more majors and why he will have many more chances to do so.

Medvedev is an incredible tennis player, an incredible competitor. As Yannick said after the match, we learn every time we go on court against Daniil, because his tennis intelligence is not inferior to anyone on tour,” Cahill said, as quoted by Tennis Majors.

Daniil Medvedev spent a total of 24 hours and 17 minutes on the courts of Melbourne Park in 2024. This set a record for a Grand Slam tournament.
