Georgian tennis player Nikolaz Basilashvili released a statement regarding the allegations of involvement in match-fixing.
German public broadcaster Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen (ZDF) has raised suspicions over Basilashvili’s (paired with Radu Albot) doubles match at Wimbledon after a large sum of money was bet on the match.
– Last weekend I learned that media publications in Germany had mentioned my name in connection with allegations of so-called “match-fixing”. These allegations are baseless and I reject them in the strongest terms.
I will not allow my name and reputation to be seriously tarnished by baseless and absurd accusations. Therefore, I demand that such accusations and lies cease immediately, and that the public be informed through the media that I completely deny all such absurd accusations,” Basilashvili told Tennis World USA.
Basilashvili announced that he was hiring a German lawyer to protect his interests.
ZDF also suspected Russian tennis player Aslan Karatsev of match fixing.
