Russian tennis player Anastasia Pavliuchenkova commented on the victory over Belgian Elise Mertens in the quarter-finals of the tournament in Linz, Austria.
On Friday, the 32-year-old Russian defeated the 4th racket of the tournament in straight sets – 6:3, 6:2. The last time Pavlyuchenkova won a WTA tournament was in 2018 in Strasbourg (France). The Russian won in Linz in 2015.
“Our last match lasted three hours and I was mentally prepared for the same scenario. I think I was already tired before the match (smile).
I’m very happy with what I showed on the pitch, because I played very well from start to finish. I was ready for every play because she always keeps fighting no matter the score.
Victory is so close, but at the same time so far. I haven’t had a trophy in a long time, so it would be great to win. It’s nice to be in the semi-final, so I’ll try to enjoy this moment. Of course, serious rivals await me next, so I will advance match by match,” Pavlyuchenkova said, as quoted by the WTA press service.
Pavlyuchenkova will face the tournament’s top racket, Latvia’s Elena Ostapenko, to reach the final. In the other semi-final, Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, seeded 2nd, and Croatian Donna Vekic, seeded 3rd, will face each other.
