Multiple Grand Slam winners Maria Sharapova Steffi Graf, Andre Agassi and John McEnroe participated in the Pickleball Slam tournament, which took place in Hollywood (Florida, USA).
The four tennis stars are also joined by former tennis players Jack Sock and James Blake, who are pursuing pickleball careers in various capacities. Sock plays professionally in Major League Pickleball (MLP) and Blake is a co-owner of the MLP’s Milwaukee Mashers.
In the main match of the competition, Russian Sharapova and American McEnroe lost to German Graff and Agassi from the United States with a score of 7:11, 11:13. A total of three matches took place during the tournament. Agassi and Sock also defeated McEnroe and Blake – 11:7, 9:11, 11:8, and Graf and Sock defeated Sharapova and Blake – 9:11, 11:8, 17:15.
The Pickleball Slam was held for the second time. The tournament’s prize pool was $1 million and went to the winners of the mini-tournament.
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis.
