Former world number one Simona Halep hopes that soon the truth will prevail in her anti-doping rule violation case and she will return to the WTA tour.
In September, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced a four-year ban for Halep. The Romanian woman was charged with two separate counts. The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.
On Friday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) held a hearing on Halep’s appeal against the ITIA decision.
“The hearing was long and I really had the opportunity to express all the arguments in my defense. “I truly believe that the truth will prevail and that the day when I return to the court will come very soon,” Halep said in a video published by Tennis One App.
Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. She has won two Grand Slam singles tournaments: the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon. In total, the 32-year-old Romanian has 24 titles in WTA tournaments.
