French tennis player Gaël Monfils disqualified from the UTS exhibition tournament in Oslo due to a fight with a supervisor, according to the competition website.
Monfils played one match at the tournament, in which he lost to Australian Alex de Minaur. Monfils’ place will be taken by his compatriot Luca Pouille.
— On Friday, a playful altercation occurred between Monfils and tournament supervisor Stefan Apostolu in the locker room, as a result of which Apostolu was slightly injured.
UTS is 100% sure that there was no malice on Gaël’s part, but as the official suffered an injury, even a minor one, we had no choice but to disqualify Monfils. Gael accepted the disqualification, he and the supervisor said goodbye on a friendly note, the statement said.
Also participating in the tournament are Andrey Rublev (Russia), Kasper Ruud (Norway), Holger Rune (Denmark), Alexander Bublik (Kazakhstan), Dominic Thiem (Austria) and Benoit Paire (France).
