The Chile Open finds itself without one of its main stars: Marin Cilic announces his withdrawal from the tournament

The Croatian will not continue the South American tour due to physical discomfort which worsened during his stay in Buenos Aires.

A few weeks ago, the Chile Open gave one of the big blows for its 2024 version, announcing the presence of Croatian Marin Cilic, former world number three and winner of the 2014 US Open. The tennis player entered the main draw thanks to an invitation, like in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro.

However, after his debut in the trans-Andean capital, where he lost in three sets against Serbian Laslo Djere, decided to end the tour early.

This is the same Balkan player who announced that he was experiencing some physical discomfort after his elimination and that he was going to say if he would continue the tour. “It’s a decision I will think about because I don’t feel 100%” advertisement,

Likewise, he later regretted the inconvenience caused by his withdrawal and announced that he would try to remedy it in one way or another in the future. “To the tournament organizers in Rio and Santiago, thank you for the opportunity to play in front of your incredible crowd. For its part, the organization expressed regret for the loss of Cilic and said in a statement: “We deeply regret not having the presence of a player with his important career. We hope for your speedy recovery.
