Chilean tennis player suspended 7 years and 5 months for match-fixing

Chilean tennis player Michel Vernier has been suspended for seven years and five months for match-fixing, according to the website of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

The tennis player admitted receiving money for match results in 2018 and did not report corruption to the ITIA. Vernier is banned from participating in or attending tennis events organized by the sport’s governing bodies until August 30, 2029. The athlete was also fined $15,000, including $7,500 suspended.

Vernier’s best position in the world rankings is 664 in 2021.

Previous media reported that Russian Aslan Karatsev was suspected of a similar violation. The tennis player could have taken part in five contract matches, including two Challenger Series doubles matches in Kazakhstan and Finland.
