Daria Kasatkina against the war
The first racket of Russia Daria Kasatkina frankly told what she thinks about war in Ukraine.
“More than anything, I want the war to end. There has not been a day since February 24 that I did not read some news myself or did not think, or somehow the day passed without it. And I don’t really have anything to do with it. It didn’t touch me, yes, thank God, damn it, it didn’t touch.
“Wimbledon and all that is f###nah, really, if you look at the scale of what is happening. And I’m freaking out about it too. And what people go through there, or people who have relatives and friends there are in Ukraine. Even the fact that now Russia, Belgorod is there. It starts, in short. And I can’t imagine what they’re going through. It’s a total nightmare.”
“If only there was something we could fucking do to stop this. At least a fraction of a percent. Precisely to stop, not to influence people’s opinions, something else. Just stop. Without hesitation, I would do everything that depends on me. But, unfortunately, damn it, well, it’s impossible. We have no control over the actions of what is happening. And from this there is some kind of feeling of powerlessness, that no one can do anything, Europe can’t even do anything.”
“I want to play against players who have the opportunity to train, to prepare for competitions, just like me. Who do not need to think about the fact that their courts were bombed at home and that they have nowhere to return. And that they don’t need to call the academies, ask: “Can we train with you?”. Where to live and all that.
“Because I know how important it is to understand that you have somewhere to return. No matter how badly you play tennis, you broke up with a guy, with a girl. That is, it doesn’t matter at all what happens in your life, what kind of cataclysms, you always know that you can return home. And I can’t imagine what it’s like when you’re like this: but there’s no home … And no, not because you didn’t find it yourself, but because it was taken away from you … taken away just like that.
Recall that at Roland Garros 2022, Kasatkina reached the semifinals, where she lost to the first racket of the world, Iga Sventek.
Ukraine is opposing the military aggression of the Russian Federation for the 146th day.
