Russian tennis player Daniel Medvedev will not participate in the ATP 250 tournament in Doha, according to the competition page of the social network.
Medvedev is the current winner of the tournament. Thus, the 28-year-old Russian is guaranteed to lose 250 points in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. After the Australian Open final, Medvedev withdrew from the second consecutive tournament, after refusing to play in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to defend my title in Doha this year. I’m still not 100% ready to compete. I am really sorry. The tournament, the fans and the sponsors always treated me very well when I was in Doha. “I love playing here and I look forward to coming back in the future,” Medvedev said.
Medvedev is ranked third in the world rankings and has 20 ATP titles to his name.
The Doha tournament will take place from February 19 to 24.
