Suspended for doping, Halep wants to sue a Canadian company for $10 million for a dietary supplement.

Former world number one Simona Halep disqualified for anti-doping rule violations, sued a Canadian dietary supplement company in New York state court, Reuters reports.

As reported, the Romanian tennis player is seeking damages of more than $10 million from Quantum Nutrition after testing positive for roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. Halep believes the substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency could having entered her system via a supplement she took during the tournament, without roxadustat being listed on the label.

The first involved a negative drug test result for the banned substance roxadustat at the 2022 US Open. The second charge was related to discrepancies in the athlete’s biological passport indicators.

Halep appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a hearing was held in February, but the decision has not yet been announced.

Halep topped the WTA rankings for 64 weeks. She won the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon.
