The Ukrainian will play with the first racket of the world in the third round of the tournament in Dubai
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina shared her expectations about the upcoming match with the world ranking leader Igoy Swiatek from Poland.
“Iga has dominated women’s tennis for several years now and has improved tremendously both on and off the court. As always, this will be a big battle. I have wonderful memories from the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. She will be motivated to beat me this time, but I love playing these types of matches. “I hope my body allows me to play my best and I will do everything I can to be ready for tomorrow.”
“Now we try to live one day at a time. To be honest, I have mixed feelings. I started the season well, played great tennis, and then got injured again. It’s hard psychologically.”
“Now we try to recover for every match. The pain remains here and there, but I try to work with my body as much as possible. I had a good training block before the tournament, which is why I was able to win these two matches. But psychologically it was not easy for me because I had to miss the end of last season, and then also Australia.”
Svitolina will play against Swiatek in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai. In the previous head-to-head meeting, Elina beat the world number one in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2023.
In addition to Elina, another Ukrainian continues to perform in Dubai – Lyudmila Kichenok, who traditionally performs in doubles in a duet with Latvian Elena Ostapenko. On February 21, Lyudmila and Elena will play in the 1/8 finals against the American-Chinese duo Alicia Parks / Xu Yifan.
