Athletistic will broadcast a live text online: Tennis. WTA-1000. Dubai. 1/8 final. Vondrousova – Samsonova. Direct
Vondrousova came up short at this year’s Australian Open, losing in devastating fashion in the first round to Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 1-6, 2-6. Then she arrived in Qatar and was eliminated in the second round by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. In Dubai, she missed the first round due to a high seed, then beat American Peyton Stearns in three sets.
Vondrousova is not yet in her best form, although over the last 10 years she has won 70% of all her matches (260 wins in 371 matches). If we only take the hard stuff, she has a win rate of 64% (99 matches out of 154).
Samsonova lost all three matches at tournaments in Australia, including the Australian Open. Then things got better for her and in Abu Dhabi she managed to reach the semi-finals, where the Russian lost to Kazakh Elena Rybakina. But then, in Doha, Samsonova again lost the first match and was immediately eliminated from the tournament. Samsonova is now back in the UAE and is only winning there this season. In the first round, Samsonova defeated Bulgarian Tomova, the second round passed without a fight due to Pavlyuchenkova’s withdrawal from the tournament.
In personal meetings, Samsonova and Vondrousova drew 1-1. The Russian won in Berlin in 2021, the Czech won the Australian Open in 2022.
