Venus Williams will play her first singles match of the year at the Toronto tournament

American tennis player Venus Williams received a wild card (special invitation) to participate in the Toronto tournament, reports the press service of the competition.

Venus in Toronto will play the first singles match in nearly 12 months: the last time she played in a tournament in Chicago last August. Along with Britain’s Jamie Murray, the 42-year-old American competed in mixed doubles at Wimbledon 2022 in July.

Williams Sr. made his debut at the Toronto Tournament in 1995, his best result at this competition being to reach the final in 2014.

Williams is a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion and a four-time Olympian.
