Former world number nine Andrei Chesnokov told that he did not achieve maximum results during his professional career.
Chesnokov ended his career in 2000. The Russian is the owner of two Masters series tournament titles in Monte Carlo (1990) and Montreal (1991). With the Russian national team he became a Davis Cup silver medalist in 1995.
-What do you regret now?
“I think I could do more in tennis.” Maybe I could have won at least one Grand Slam, but I could only win two Masters. I think I didn’t make the most of what I could.
– Why do you think that?
— I started playing on the ATP circuit quite late. To be honest, knowing the system in the Soviet Union, it’s good that I at least somehow opened up. Tennis players Vadim Borisov, Konstantin Pugaev, Alexander Zverev and Sergei Leonyuk played only in the USSR and were able to travel only to Yugoslavia, Poland and other friendly countries. They were just writing with boiling water during these trips,” Chesnokov told .
