Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina called the decision to disqualify Russian Andrey unfair and shameful. Rubleva during the semi-finals of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai.
On Friday, Rublev was disqualified for insulting a linesman during a match against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. In the third set, with the end of the rally, after which the score became 6:5 in favor of Bublik, Rublev shouted at the line referee. Another linesman, who was nearby, heard an insult to his colleague in the athlete’s Russian speech and immediately turned to the chief referee and supervisor.
“It’s very unfair that they disqualified Rublev without first making sure that the linesman understood everything correctly. This rule should be reviewed and modified. A shame. We need VAR in tennis,” Davidovich-Fokina wrote on the social network.
Russian Daria Kasatkina also believes that it is necessary to introduce VAR into tennis.
— So we can simply deprive a player of points and money without even watching the video replay? What kind of joke is this? Another confirmation that we need VAR in tennis and an electronic system to check the lines in all tournaments,” noted the tennis player.
According to the regulations, after being suspended, Rublev will lose all points earned and prize money from the tournament.
