Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Alexei Selivanenko told that the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), in accordance with the rules, fairly dealt with the scandalous situation of Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev during the Dubai tournament.
On Friday, Rublev was disqualified for insulting a linesman during a match against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik. In the third set, with the end of the rally, after which the score became 6:5 in favor of Bublik, Rublev shouted at the line referee. Another linesman, who was nearby, heard an insult to his colleague in the athlete’s Russian speech and immediately turned to the chief referee and supervisor.
On Monday, the ATP said Rublev received 200 points for his Dubai tournament quarterfinal victory over American athlete Sebastian Korda, and also won more than $157,000 in prize money.
“The ATP system, including the consideration of these issues, functions optimally and in such situations it quickly reviews and makes a fair decision based on the context of what happened. This issue is not a topic for discussion at all, there are rules according to which Andrey received points and prize money for the tournament. There is nothing here that goes beyond the procedures and rules, both in terms of what happened during the match and in the discussions between the officials. The ATP mechanism works perfectly,” Selivanenko told .
The winner of the Dubai tournament was Frenchman Hugo Humbert, who defeated Bublik in the final with a score of 6:4, 6:3.
