Athletistic/Tennis. Former Soviet and Russian tennis player Andrei Olkhovsky expressed his opinion on the ATP’s decision to award 200 points to Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev for his victory in the quarterfinals of the ATP-500 tournament in Dubai. Rublev was disqualified in the semi-final of the competition for unsportsmanlike behavior towards the referee.

“After the match between Andrei Rublev and Alexander Bublik, I immediately asked the question why we should trust the linesmen? Yes, there are rules to follow, but all errors must be carefully checked. Disqualification should not depend on the opinion of a person who is simply replacing the linesman.

I am very happy for Andrei that the decision was made in his favor. If there had been no disqualification, he would have had the opportunity to win the tournament, but this decision deprived him of that opportunity. It would be interesting to see a re-examination of the events, at least for me.

There are often times in the game where mistakes by linesmen can have serious consequences. If the VAR system had been introduced, such situations might not have arisen,” Olkhovsky noted in an interview with a “Championship” correspondent.

  • Yanchuk: “The decision to award points to Rublev is not accidental”
